Turns out, we had to build the school, literally.
Strawberry Blossom Montessori has been years in the making. After experiencing a myriad of roadblocks in our initial facility search, our team decided to approach Bar Harbor Bank in 2024 about purchasing their empty 1-acre lot at 331 Main Street in New London and building our school from the ground up. They were taken with the mission of our school and agreed to sell our non-profit the land.
Since then, we have worked with architects, civil engineers, landscape designers, and builders to design and permit a fantastic two-room schoolhouse and children's garden that will place children at the heart of our community for decades to come. Our nine-month build has begun, and our whole community now gets to watch this great investment in children being built. The building will be finished Summer 2026 and we will open our doors in early September.
The Schoolhouse
A one-story 4,500 square foot schoolhouse featuring ideal learning environments for Toddlers and Primary children, a teaching kitchen, and a light-filled multipurpose room to share in reciprocity with the greater community.
Built with the latest in design and materials to ensure multiple generations of children can spend their foundational preschool years in this captivating space.
The Children’s Garden
A natural playspace at the center of the community--full of texture, color, aroma, and edible plantings--that fosters discovery, curiosity, playfulness, environmental stewardship, peace, and connectedness.
By loving the land, children develop into great caretakers of the land.
